AFC West Post Draft Needs

Denver Broncos: With the second overall pick in the draft, the Broncos got the extremely talented outside linebacker Von Miller. With him and Elvis Dumervil returning, the team’s outside pass rush should be much better. The problem lies on the inside of the defensive line. With the switch to a 4-3, and both of last year’s top players cut, there aren’t really players suitable to step in to start. The team failed to address this need in the draft, so they will have to try in free agency.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 21-26

21) Kansas City Chiefs – Phil Taylor, Defensive Tackle, Baylor

Stopping the run was a major problem for Kansas City late in the season as they had no run stuffing nose tackle. Taylor fills that role like Vince Wolfork used to do for this coaching staff in New England. At 6’3 and 334 pounds, Taylor eats up a lot of space and will make the unit much better.

22) Indianapolis Colts – Derek Sherrod, Offensive Tackle, Mississippi State

2011 AFC West Team Draft Needs

Denver Broncos: With the second pick in the draft, the Broncos can basically get their choice of anyone they like. The team finished last in the NFL in sacks last year, so help on the defensive line (Nick Fairley, Da’Quan Bowers) is a definitely possibility. Other positions like safety and middle linebacker need some depth, but nobody at those positions deserves to be taken that high. Cornerback Patrick Peterson is also an option because of his special talent.

2011 Super Bowl Future Betting

Now that the NFL Playoffs are here, it is time to dissect the Super Bowl Future odds to see where the value lies.

The key to playing futures is to find a team that is undervalued at double-digit odds, as that always leaves open the possibility of hedging your wager down the line if you so desire, provided you are correct and your team exceeds expectations.

Well, we did not have to look far to find such a team, so here is our one and only Super Bowl future selection for 2010.

NFL Wild Card Playoffs Preview and Odds

The NFL playoffs have arrived, and what stands out in the wild card round is that in three of the four games, the road team has the better record. That should increase the likelihood of several wild cards advancing to the next round, especially with one of the host teams being the Seattle Seahawks, who made the playoffs with a losing record.

The closest game, if the Wild Card odds are to be believed, will be either the Jets at Colts or the Packers at Eagles with both teams at -2.5. The biggest spread is in the Saints at Seahawks with the Saints, unsurprisingly, at -11.

San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs: NFL Betting Preview

The San Diego Chargers have had a disturbing history of slow starts under Norv Turner, and they will be looking to avoid another one this season, beginning with the second half of this Monday’s doubleheader when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs.

The bookmakers are apparently expecting a replay of previous seasons, as they have set the NFL spread on this contest at just San Diego -4½ on the road, with the betting ‘total’ set at 45.

Kansas City Chiefs 2010-2011 Season Preview

A Look Back – The Todd Haley experiment probably isn’t going according to plan in Kansas City. The Matt Cassel one isn’t either. Still, with the amount of money committed to Tom Brady’s former backup is too large to bring in another potential starting quarterback that isn’t a lucky draft selection on a poor rookie contract. After a woeful season, the Kansas City Chiefs have to feel like the pieces are starting to fall in place though, which could make for a bright 2010 campaign.

2010 NFL Draft Day 1 Winners and Losers

Winners

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy is perfect for them and they got him exactly where he should go.

Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry is exactly what they needed. They might have been able to trade down a few spots and still pick him, but Berry is exactly what they needed.

Seattle Seahawks: Russell Okung probably shouldn’t have fallen to Seattle, so great for them to pick him up. Earl Thomas is another great pick at 14. The Seahawks probably did the best of anyone on Day 1.
