Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Arizona Wildcats Preview

The PAC 10 has performed extremely well so far in 2010. Their teams are competing to show that they are one of the best conferences in all of college football. The conference will get a big boost this weekend if the 24th ranked Arizona Wildcats can upset 9th ranked and Big 10 powerhouse Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Hawkeyes have to travel to Arizona for this one, and are only a slim two point favorite in the college football odds. Both teams have destroyed their first two opponents, setting up a great game this weekend.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have been known recently for their dominant defense. After finishing 11th last year, they have given up a paltry seven points and 216 yards per game this year. The big guys up front are especially talented, and will definitely be the biggest test Arizona has faced yet.

Iowa’s offense has been surprisingly strong here in the early going, especially the running game. Adam Robinson has 265 yards and four scores in two games to lead the Hawkeyes to the 25th best rushing attack in the nation. Quarterback Ricky Stanzi has been efficient and mistake free, completing 71% of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Arizona Wildcats offense has been one of best in college football this year, ranking 11th in scoring so far. Quarterback Nick Foles has completed 83% of his passes for 574 yards. The running game has also been terrific, with both of the top rushers (Nic Grigsby, Greg Nwoko) averaging 8.4 yards per carry.

The Wildcats’ defense has not allowed an opponent into the end zone yet, giving up only a few field goals. Arizona must pay specific attention to the Iowa running backs to win this game.

This showdown of top 25 teams will be a statement game. Whoever comes out on top should solidify a place in the top 10 and prove that they are a national title contender.
