Air Force Falcons at Oklahoma Sooners Preview

The Oklahoma Sooners defense has not had an easy start to their schedule. After facing multi-faceted Utah State, they took on pass happy Florida State. After winning both of those games, they play the top ranked rushing team in the country, the Air Force Falcons.

The Falcons are also off to a 2-0 start, beating rival BYU last week 35-14. The seventh ranked Sooners looked excellent in their last game, destroying the Seminoles 47-17. When the Falcons visit the Sooners this weekend, the college football odds have them as a 17 point underdog.

The Air Force Falcons average an incredible 423 yards rushing per game. Their version of the option offense has proven to be incredibly difficult to stop. Quarterback Tim Jefferson and running backs Asher Clark and Jared Tew have combined to lead the offense to 50 points per game.

The Oklahoma Sooners defense played much better last week than in their first game, holding the Seminoles potent offense to only 274 yards before a late “garbage time” drive. Air Force’s offensive line is very small, so the Oklahoma defenders may be able to use their size to their advantage.

Quarterback Landry Jones looked excellent for the Sooners last week, throwing four touchdown passes. He looks to have a lot more confidence and is making plays deep down the field. Running back DeMarco Murray has also been playing well, averaging over 5 yards per carry.

This game could turn into a wild one if the Sooners can’t find an answer for the Falcons’ rushing attack. Air Force will try to control the ball as much as possible, but every time Jones touches it, he has the ability to land a scoring strike. Don’t count out the Falcons to pull off a surprise in Norman.
