Norman, Oklahoma will be the site of a major top 25 matchup in the second week of college football. The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Florida State Seminoles in a battle that will have far reaching implications.
The Florida State Seminoles blew out their first opponent, Samford, by a score 59-6. Oklahoma on the other hand, had their hands full and narrowly beat Utah State 31-24. Oklahoma is a 9.5 point favorite in college football lines.
Oklahoma amassed 412 yards of total offense and showed plenty of big play ability. Running back DeMarco Murray rushed for 218 yards on 35 carries and scored twice. Leading receiver Ryan Broyles had a big day as well, but quarterback Landry Jones had a poor performance.
He completed less than 50% of his passes and threw two interceptions. The Florida State defense is by no means excellent, but they are definitely better than Utah State’s and they may give Jones a lot of problems.
The Oklahoma Sooners defense also underachieved, giving up 421 total yards, including 341 through the air. The team lost many star players to the NFL, but they have got to play better if they want to have a chance against the Seminoles.
Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder was incredibly efficient against Samford, throwing for four touchdowns on only 14 attempts. He spread the ball around well to his receivers, with five different players have 40 yards receiving or more. Ty Jones had a great day on ground, racking up 107 yards on only 8 carries.
Even though the Sooners are higher ranked and favored, it looks like losing so much talent from last year has hurt them. Jones and the defense must play better or the Seminoles will be heading home with a big win.
