Revenge is on the wish list for the 12th ranked Miami Hurricanes as they travel up North to face the 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. More than seven years after their loss in the Fiesta Bowl based on a disputed pass interference call, former Hurricanes are telling the new guard how much this game means to them.
Former ‘Canes and current NFL stars such as Andre Johnson and Jonathan Vilma are pushing for Miami to win, but will they have enough to overcome the college football odds of being a 9 point underdog?
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been a perennial title contender almost every year in recent memory. Their star quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, will try to lead his team to a major victory and a potential number 1 overall ranking. Wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher and running back Brandon Saine provide Pryor with exciting weapons to work with.
Miami’s defense was average last season, with a weak pass rush that ended up 10th in sacks in the ACC. That may be different this year, as the team had eight in their opening matchup against Florida A&M. The defensive line will have to get pressure from a four man rush, because if the Hurricanes rush any more guys, Pryor will find it easy to hit open receivers downfield.
Quarterback Jacory Harris leads the Miami Hurricane offense. He is known for big plays, both positive and negative. He is trying to correct his interception issues from last season, and looked good in the first game by throwing three scores and no picks. Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson caught two of those touchdown passes and Damien Berry will be the starting running back.
Ohio State’s defense ranked fifth in total defense in 2009 and will be extremely tough against the Hurricanes. Miami has a weak offensive line, so that could spell major problems for Harris and his offensive mates.
Ohio State’s defensive line against Miami’s offensive line is an important battle to keep an eye on and could prove to be the difference in this one. No matter what, this game could be a preview of a national title contender.
