Coming off of yet another disappointing season, the Louisville Cardinals are hoping that some competition at quarterback will spark a return to glory, or at least respectability. Adam Froman took most of the snaps last season and Justin Burke also saw time at quarterback, but sophomore Will Stein is getting plenty of reps in practice. Even if he doesn’t steal the starter or backup job, the extra competition should help the Cardinals field an improved offense.

Whoever gets the starting job will have to put up yards with a sub-standard receiving corps. They don’t have anyone who can be counted on to get open and make plays.

While the Louisville won’t be getting many yards through the air, they should be able to get them on the ground where they have a roster deep in running threats led by Bilal Powell who continues to improve. The offensive line has a lot of potential, but they will need to prove they can open up some holes for the run.

There has been a lot of turnover on the Cardinals defense and they will field a small but fast unit that plays surprisingly aggressive for their size.

The Cardinals aren’t a real threat to win the Big East. They are in the first year of a new coaching regime and getting a bowl game invite will be a realistic goal for this year. The new coaches are trying to get the team to play more aggressively and that has translated to more intensity in practice.

Louisville Cardinals odds to win the Big East: +800.
