Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans is probably the biggest bargain in the NFL making a base salary of $550,000 in his third year of a five year contract.
Johnson isn’t attending offseason workouts with the Jaguars prefering to workout on his own. Could Johnson hold out and miss part of the season after topping 2,000 rushing yards in 2009?
As much as it pains me to say this about someone who received a $7 million signing bonus, but I think he has to.
Running backs have a very short career and Johnson will be 27 when his current contract runs out. That likely gives him just three years at top dollar unless an injury derails him before then.
The difference for Johnson is being set for life versus needing a plan for life after the NFL.
The Tennessee Titans odds to win the Super Bowl are currently listed at +2800. If Johnson were to hold out for even a few games, it would likely end the Jaguars’ already unlikely odds of even making the playoffs.
